Donald D. Scaturro, Sr., 78, of Granite City, IL

Donald D. Scaturro, Sr., 78, of Granite City, IL died at his home on Saturday, February 3, 2007. He was born October 28, 1928 in Venice, IL, a son of the late Gus and Angeline (Mangi) Scaturro. He married Elnora Mae (Langston) Scaturro on July 7, 1951 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Venice, Illinois and she preceded him in death on October 6, 2003. He retired in 1993 from Samuel Kraus Construction after 46 years of dedicated service as a shop superintendent and heavy equipment operator. He was the owner of Bob’s Flowers in Granite City for 21 years. The United States Army veteran proudly served his country and was a member of the American Legion Post #307. He was an active member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Venice throughout his life and was also a member of the Italian- American Club and the Venice Social Club. He enjoyed making rosaries and will be remember for never meeting a stranger, always willing to help others and the stories he had to tell. Through the past years, his heart and soul was to help establish the St. Mark’s Memorial Bells at Calvary Cemetery. His hope was to make this dream a reality and one day, our hope is to hear those bells ring a soft whisper of his name. He is survived and will dearly be missed by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Kathleen and Bob Hotz of Edwardsville, Christine Scaturro of Collinsville, Teresa and Terry Shipton of Maryville, Carol Scaturro of Granite City; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald D. and Gina Scaturro, Jr., of Granite City; ten grandchildren, Lexi, Rob, Sarah, Melanie, Melissa, Loreli, Gerry, Emily, Mitchell, Chelsea; six great grandchildren, Laney, Abby, Ashlynn, Jerry, Heather, Jacob; brothers and sisters; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; other extended family and many dear friends. Visitation: Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL on Thursday, February 8, 2007 from 4 to 8 p.m. with a rosary recitation at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Venice, IL on Friday, February 9, 2007 with Fr. Delix Michel as celebrant. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL. Memorial may be made to St. Mark’s Memorial Bells and may be accepted at the funeral home.
