William D. Lewis, 63, formerly of Granite City, IL

WILLIAM DAVID LEWIS, 63, of Ironton, Missouri and formerly of Granite City, Illinois died on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Iron County Hospital in Ironton, MO. He was born July 16, 1948 in Rector, Arkansas, a son of the late Vestal Eugene and Edith Monteen (Fowler) Lewis. He married Gloria J. (McIntyre) Lewis on January 30, 1973 in St. Louis, MO. She survives. The United States Air Force veterans proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Arcadia Valley Elks Lodge #2330 and the Granite City Aerie #1126. He retired in 2010 from Metro Transit where he had more than 30 years of dedicated service in the St. Louis and Illinois areas. He enjoyed his days of fishing, hunting and boating and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends. In addition to his beloved wife of 39 years, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Mindy Lewis of Granite City, IL; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Tony Tucker of Pontoon Beach, IL; five grandchildren, Daniel, Danita, Kristin, Brianna and Anthony; one brother and sister-in-law, Randel H. and Bonnie Lewis of O’Fallon, IL; nieces; nephews; cherished companion dogs, Harley and Chopper; other extended family and many friends. In addition to his beloved parents, one brother, Vestal Eugene Lewis, Jr., and one sister, Zandra Lewis, preceded him in death. Visitation was help on Thursday, January 26, 2012 and funeral services were held on Friday, January 27, 2012. Military rites were accorded. Memorials: Disabled American Veterans. Irwin Chapel of Granite City was in charge of arrangements.
